Curaçao
An orange-flavoured liqueur from the Caribbean island of Curaçao.Basically a form of triple-sec made from Laraha fruit. The Laraha is basically a descendant of the Valencia orange, but the trees did not grow well in the Curaçao soil and the resulting fruit was green, bitter and useless for eating. The dried peel, however, proved to be pleasantly aromatic, and left to steep in alcohol produces this liqueur.
Used mainly in tropical cocktails, the main distinguishing feature of this liqueur is the colour. While most triple-secs are transparent, Curaçao comes in blue, orange and green varieties. These colours are just food-dyes, and so don’t affect the taste.
